But after Hideki found Chii, pieces from a lost puzzle started to surface; pictures, e-mails, picture books. Through perilous mysteries and emo, the Scooby Gang prevailed, and finally received a picture of Elda with Nerd!Chitose by her side. The Gang went all ‘wtf?!’ and Hideki couldn’t bring himself to confront her (even if he saw her, since she pulled a disappearing act). During her little vacation it’s revealed that the story books, “A City with No People”, were actually written and illustrated by Chitose. The one message behind these books was to find the ‘someone just for me’. When Chitose appears again, she leads Hideki down into the dark and mystifying depths of the room under her apartment. It is there that Chitose tells Hideki everything about Chii and herself. Chitose tells Hideki that she used to work at Piffle Princess Enterprises, and that she met her husband, the president of the company. Chitose couldn’t have children, so her husband, the glorious never-see-the-top-half-of-his-face Ichiro Mihara, secretly built her a daughter from the Angelic technology. Chitose named her Freya, and Freya called her mommy. The two were a freaking adorable mommy-daughter pair, but soon Freya became sad and Chitose noticed. She suggested to Ichiro that he build Freya a sister, and he did. Elda and Freya then became Chitose’s two baby girls, and even though they weren’t human, Mommy and Daddy treated them as such. But Freya broke down. It was slow, but it punched hard. The reason Freya had become sad was because she had fallen in love with Ichiro, but knew that Ichiro was in love with Chitose. She bottled her feelings and the conflict, causing her hardware to collapse under the pressure of so much ‘emotion’. Chitose had found out about Freya’s feelings before this, but had no idea what to do. When Freya was close to ‘dying’, Elda suggested that Freya live in Elda’s body, together. Elda knew the risk to herself, but did it anyway. Chitose and Ichiro ran in, but could do nothing. Elda then told her Mommy and Daddy her last wish: to be left far away so that she might one day meet her ‘someone just for her’. Freya was gone, and Elda’s memories had been erased trying to support two persocoms in one body. Chitose had lost both of her daughters, and soon after that, her husband as well. Chitose loyally left Elda’s body where she could be found, but also left with her a small disc containing all of Elda’s memories. She left the disc in case someone didn’t save her, and in the hope Chitose’s family could still survive some way. But anyone who came close would leave her once they discovered she was broken. Chitose still watched over her though, hoping that maybe someone would take her in. And finally, Hideki took her and named her ‘Chii’. Chitose also made a confession to Hideki. Before Elda was completely gone, Ichiro installed a new program to her, something that could threaten all persocoms, or rather, their owners. During Chitose’s explanation, Chii was upstairs running this very program, which could only be started once Chii had found the ‘person just for her’. Two government persocoms who were tracking Chii came to destroy the program, but Chitose stopped them. She needed Hideki to talk to Chii, but also Freya. She wanted to know if Hideki truly loved her daughter. Personality: Chitose is very kind in a stereotypical mother type of way. She used to work at Piffle Princess helping with developing the Angels, so she is of course incredibly smart. The fact that she got attached to a little toy and was sad when it broke proves her loving nature and mommyness. She’s not the type of person to decide their love based on if the object of affection is human or not. Even though she’s a nerd, she’s also creative (wrote and illustrated kiddy books, yo). Though she is a little protective of our dear Chii, she’s not a mother bear. If comparisons to animals must be made, she’s more of a hen. She worried over Elda, even when she saw that her daughter was happy with Hideki (which really caused more worry). She’s a soft person, but also amazingly strong. To lose your daughters and husband but still be able to smile at the end of the day shows incredible amounts of strength. Chitose never once went ‘boo, emo tiemz’, but instead shed her tears and moved on (but not in a callous way). She loves flowers and rainbows and bunnies and is awesome. | |||||||||
